Started riding at 8yrs old, at her local riding school. Karen loved lessons and just generally being around horses and very soon was helping out, this turned into a part-time job, finally leading to a full time job with training. Between 16-18yrs old Karen worked towards her BHSAI, along the way gaining valuable experience in horsecare, riding and teaching. After achieving her BHSAI, Karen worked in a large equestrian centre, gaining experience in the running of a big yard, involvement in teaching/hosting pony club camps and rallies, hunting, teaching/supporting RDA, assisting in hosting BHS stage exams and finally the chance to travel to Wemberly as a groom for The British Horseball Team. She also had a 6mth period on a competition/dealing yard, where she gained experience in show jumping, improving/producing horses to sell and travelling to competitions. In 1995 Karen returned as Yard Manager to run the local riding school where she had first learnt to ride, during this time she achieved her NVQ Level 2 & 3 and also became a qualified NVQ Assessor. In 1997 Karen left working with horses to have her son. The opportunity then arose for Karen to use her Assessor qualification to work for a training company, delivering training, assessing and offering support to Equine Students in work placements. Karen continued to develop this role, by gaining health and safety qualifications and experience and also achieving her IV qualification. She was twice employed by 2 different large equestrian centres to launch training departments. In 2005 Karen was in the fortunate position to take time out of work and be a full-time mum, during this time Karen had her own horse which she rode recreationally. In 2007 the idea started to form about opening her own yard, a dream from childhood, and in February 2008 Ratcliffe Equestrian was launched.
Amanda originally came to us as a livery client in 2009; becoming a member of the yard staff just a year later. Initially working on the yard she progressed to taking on her own clients. In 2012 she took a break due to injury, but we’re delighted that she was able to return to a teaching position with us in June 2015, bringing back with her a wealth of equestrian knowledge and experience.
Having undertook Equine Studies including her BHS Stage exams; she came to Ratcliffe Equestrian to gain teaching experience and has become an invaluable member of the team since she’s been with us. Her Equine Studies are now complete and the teaching experience with us has paid off as she has now achieved her BHS PTT. Hannah now her own horse, Rocky. With him she is developing her skills and experiences, including trying XC and competing at a local level.
Kirsten has a wealth of experience having been riding at Ratcliffe Equestrian for over four years, before starting work for us in 2015. Kirsten’s riding and yard work continue to improve and she is putting her experience to good use organising the yard at the weekends and during holidays. Kirsten is just starting to learn to teach and hopefully in the near future will join our team of instructors in the school.
Karen Davidson’s mum, so via Karen, has been around horses for the last 30 years. Mo brings a wealth of support and experience to the administrative side of the business and customer service. Mo runs the office over the weekends and at other peak times. She meets and greets clients, supervises our keen young helpers and helps out with general yard duties. After many years of watching Karen, Mo finally decided to have a go, she now even owns a horse (Ellie). Although she is competent in the saddle, she decide riding wasn’t really her thing, but she loves being around the horses the ground. Karen’s retired ponies often find their way to Mo’s house for a well earned retirement home full of love and food!
Rhonda joined Ratcliffe Equestrian originally as a riding school client in 2016. By 2017 she had settled into riding so well she went out a brought herself a horse, the lovely Megan (pictured with Rhonda above) Rhonda loves spending time on the yard and is always happy to lend a hand in getting the job done, so in 2018 it was made official and she joined the Ratcliffe team.
